TRC and LVI Environmental Services Commended by PG&E for Successful Completion of Humboldt Bay Generating Station RE PowerTM Project
Companies Praised for Attention to Safety and Environmental Protection
LOWELL, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TRC Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRR) today announced the completion of a demolition and environmental remediation project for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) on portions of the Humboldt Bay Generating Station (HBGS), located in Eureka, California. The project included removal of an aging fuel oil pipeline from the 1950s that was buried under approximately 25 feet of sediment in Humboldt Bay.
To mark the successful end of the project, PG&E stated, “We commend TRC, their subcontractor LVI Environmental Services, as well as M&M Diving, RGA Environmental and Stillwater Sciences, for a job well done. The project was completed safely and without releasing a single drop of oil into the land or aquatic environment.”
“TRC is strongly committed to the safe execution of every project,” said Chris Vincze, Chairman and CEO of TRC. “We take particular pride in our ability to achieve a zero-incident safety record on our projects, such as the one at the HBGS, which had to overcome numerous logistical, environmental and schedule challenges. This project represents another example of activity under our RE PowerTM initiative designed to service the comprehensive needs of power plant operators as they re-position their aging power plant assets and properties for beneficial re-use.”
“The RE Power initiative combines the expertise of TRC and LVI Environmental Services to form one of the nation’s largest project execution platforms for remediation, dismantlement and asset optimization,” said Robert A. McNamara, CEO of LVI Services Inc. “Our commitment to safety and environmental protection is perfectly aligned with the commitments of TRC and PG&E.”
TRC conducted three remediation projects as well as the fuel oil pipeline removal project at HBGS. TRC was selected to lead the pipeline project based in part on the successful execution of those projects, coupled with a commitment to utilize diverse local contractors with safe performance records.
TRC provided permitting and licensing assistance, as well as oversight and construction management for the removal of the 3,451-foot-long fuel oil pipeline. The work scope also included bay sediment sampling via barge, pipeline fluid removal, pipeline abatement and removal, and site restoration.
